As many as 104 employees have been detained by the police for protesting in opposition to low wages at Samsung’s plant close to Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The employees had been planning a march on Monday with out permission, the police stated.

In keeping with a report in Reuters, employees are demanding larger wages and have boycotted work for seven days, which lastly escalated to detention on Monday. The strike on the Samsung plant disrupted manufacturing that contributes roughly a 3rd of Samsung’s annual India income of $12 billion.

Senior police officer of Kancheepuram district, Okay. Shanmugam, stated that the employees weren’t given permission for the protest as there have been faculties, schools and hospitals within the space. The police official stated that the protest might have probably paralysed your entire space and disturbed public peace.

Shanmugam stated that the employees had been detained in marriage ceremony halls because the station didn’t have sufficient room for all of them.

The Samsung plant employees have been protesting since final week at a makeshift tent close to the plant for larger wages, recognition of the union by labour group Centre of Indian Commerce Unions (CITU) and higher working hours. Nonetheless, Samsung is just not eager to recognise any union backed by an outdoor labour group.

The South Korean firm stated on Friday that it has initiated discussions with its employees on the Chennai plant and goals to resolve the problems on the earliest.
